F-Secure Internet Security Review

F-Secure Internet Security is an all-in-one suite that combines award-winning antivirus, advanced privacy and parental controls, secure online banking, and a personal firewall into one program. Its cloud based real-time protection keeps you safe from phishing, malware and other threats. It also protects you from identity theft and data breaches by encrypting sensitive information, and helps to keep your kids safe online with parental controls.

The user interface is simple and intuitive, and the software installs and updates quickly. Scanning options include a file, folder or drive scan and a system-wide scan that checks all installed programs and files. Scans are speedy, even at first and they get faster the more you use them.

When you click on a search result, F-Secure Internet Security uses a color coding system similar to Norton and McAfee’s: green means safe, yellow is suspicious and red means harmful. This makes it easy to see the reputation of a search result before you click on it.

Other features are handy, too. For example, when you visit a known banking website F-Secure Internet Security automatically disconnects your computer from the internet and blocks untrusted websites until your bank transaction is complete. It also includes a feature that monitors your computer for suspicious behavior, and can shut down an application you’ve opened or even your entire computer if it’s acting in an unusual way.

The only drawbacks are that this suite doesn’t include a custom firewall or network scanning tools and there’s no active breach protection to warn you when your passwords and credentials have been leaked on the web. You can find those in the pricier F-Secure Total package that starts at PS35 for a single PC or PS40 for three.
